Taste Changes in Family and Living Rooms. Recliners of this era were typically heavy and overstuffed. When changes in decor style changes so did the chairs. At this point quite a few individuals decided not to have these types of recliners. By the 1970 these comfy relics found their way to basements and garages. In fact this may have been the birth of the "Man Cave" concept widely known today. Changes in taste seemed to lean toward saving space. As many can attest through personal experience, these newer, more compact models found their way in to the living room of the 1970s. However these chairs tended to be in out of the way dens and not the formal living rooms. Some people just refused to get rid of these comfy chairs.
A recliner, as the word denotes, is a type of chair that leans back or reclines into a comfortable lounging position with the feet elevated and the head lying down. It was first introduced to the market by a company called La-Z-Boy in 1928. The recliners design is based on the natural contour of the body when seated and leaned back. The ottoman was added to the recliner as footstool during the 1950s and became its symbol. The first recliner became very famous that other furniture makers jumbled to ride on its popularity and offered their own versions of this innovative furniture. Recliners are really comfortable and relaxing chairs. They are mostly made from upholstery, leather, vinyl or naugahyde, an artificial leather.
The three most popular and commonly used types of recliners are the two-position recliner, the rocker or wall-saver, and the pushback or flex-back. The traditional two position recliner is the cheapest and most basic of all types of recliners. Some of its areas are upholstered with genuine leather like the arm, seat base and leg. One can be bought for less than a hundred dollars. Several parts such as the back are covered by vinyl, unlike others fully covered with leather. The usual warranty period for these recliners is just one year. There are also few styles to choose from. The rocker recliner is the most famous type of recliner and therefore most largely manufactured. It can be rocked back and forth while sitting upright or reclined. It has many different adjustable reclining angles. The wall-saver option allows you to place it very close to the wall to save space. It cannot be rocked while it is against the wall. It has a larger selection of fabrics and styles. The warranty is usually 5 years on frame and the unit has a lifetime guarantee. It is also more expensive than two position recliner.
Remote control panels are being smartly built into todays recliners. These control panels allow you to operate the entire chair at the touch of a button. There are many other features being added into these recliners. Air massage systems are now being integrated into many recliners. These systems give a compression massage. Compression massage uses a pushing and pulling force on different muscles to restore flexibility. You may also find vibro massage programs integrated into many recliners. Vibration is great for deeper penetration through the muscle tissue. These recliners come with a variety of automatic programs to suit your needs.
If three position power recliners lack flexibility, one can step up to the more versatile and expensive infinite position recliner. Gaining more bells and whistles, the primary difference is the number of motors. Two and three position lift chairs have one motor to do everything limiting flexibility and precise position selecting. An infinite position recliner has two motors, one to raise the foot section and another to recline and lift the recliner. An example why one would want an infinite position recliner over others types of lift chairs would be someone needing to operate the feet section independently of the back. This allows one to raise the feet leaving the chair seated in the upright position more suitable for eating and reading.
