In the late 1960s and 1970s, bean bag chairs were a popular form of modular furniture. Filled with small chunks of Styrofoam or PVC pellets, these were standard fare in dormitories and young peoples homes. Adults also bought them for their childrens bonus rooms. They didnt tend to be seen as "grown up" furniture. But in the 21st century, these chairs have been completely updated and now can now be brought up from the basement and put into an elegant family room. Now adults are proud to have bean bag chairs and sectionals as part of their family and media rooms.

Contemporary designers now produce all sorts of shapes and sizes of wing chair, and yet the early Queen Anne shape has an enduring popularity.Though the functional need for the wing declined as homes moved away from open fires to central heating, the design motif remained steadfastly popular. And not just in traditional furniture designs. Even with modernist furniture design in the 1950s and 1960s new chair designs using new materials (e.g. designs by Grant Featherstone 1951, Edward Wormley designing for Dunbar in the 1950s The Egg by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen, Denmark, 1958) either retained or re-invented the wing. Today modern homes have changed their layout and function considerably and one will find occasional chairs in almost any room, with lounge or bedroom being the most common locations. Wingback chairs may have a classic shape but they can be upholstered in the funkiest of modern fabrics. You may be surprised that a 300 year old design remains as popular today whether you are furnishing in a traditional or contemporary style.
Before you jump right into purchasing these, take some time to look into your room design and picture out what type of antique chair is perfect to add. Ask yourself about what critical role the chair would play - is it going to dictate the whole design theme or just a fixture thatll complete the whole look? You should focus on a specific era of finely crafted chairs (thatll make choosing a little easier). These are not cheap investments - you can expect to pay four to five digit figures - but definitely fulfilling, especially for those who love to collect antiques. One of the rules with antique chairs is that, the older and more worn out the condition, the greater the value. The quality of the workmanship and the amount of imperfections (remember this is a good thing) would also influence its pricing. If there are any replaced parts in it, the cost would - and it should - most likely go down.
